CURRICULUM

Welcome to Joshua’s Place Daycare Center ELEC. At Joshua’s Place, it is our mission to provide children with an atmosphere that promotes educational, spiritual, social, emotional, and physical development.

We are a Black-owned, Christian-based Daycare center promoting spiritual growth with daily Bible lessons.

At Joshua’s Place ELEC, we believe that being in an early learning program is a wonderful experience that children and their families will greatly benefit from.

Our program includes both indoor and outdoor play, American Sign Language, Yoga for Youth, Computer facilitated learning and other learning experiences in settings that are both structured and unstructured for children with and without special needs.

Focusing on the developmental levels of the age groups we serve is also essential in providing quality learning opportunities. A comprehensive curriculum provides learning objectives and goals in areas like Literacy, Math, Phonics, Science, Physical Education, Problem Solving, Arts, Health, Nutrition and Safety and Work Habits.

At Joshua’s Place high quality child care is paramount. We know that children learn through high quality experiences.

Maryland’s child care rating system is called Maryland Excels and we participate in this rating systems and we are level 3.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

HEALTH BEGINNINGS (2-3 YEAR OLDS)

For our 2-year-olds we use Health Beginnings along with additional curriculum guides from the Investigator Club. They provide a guide of daily circle time activities that are developmentally appropriate. (3-5 YEAR OLDS)

The Investigator Club™ Prekindergarten Learning System is a comprehensive, fully integrated curriculum created to prepare children for kindergarten in all developmental areas.

The comprehensive learning system includes a System Resources box with basic key components that are used all year long. Content-specific materials are provided with each of the seven integrated Investigation Kits.

The innovative components, lessons, and activities are the result of extensive classroom testing, teacher input, and the latest early childhood research. This system provides:
• explicit, systematic, scaffolded instruction.
• both teacher-guided instruction and child-initiated investigations.
• differentiated instruction for inclusion, English language learners, and three-year-olds.
• flexible scheduling for full- and half-day programs.
• classroom management tips and lesson planning guides.
• ongoing, integrated assessment.
• professional development.
• activities, ideas, and support for family involvement.

We also use the Investigator Club Social and Emotional Development Kit, whereas children gain important life skills through more than 30 engaging lessons that bring out the best in children as they learn about kindness, friendship, compassion, responsibility, sharing, listening and waiting.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

We provide an After-School program that services children from kindergarten thru 15 years of age with/without special needs. We have a wonderful team to assist children with homework and other educational support. Children receive individualized assistance with their homework on a daily basis. We do encourage parents to complete and review any homework that is bought at home. It is essential that children have a place that is safe and academically nurturing – an extension of school and home.

When homework is complete there are a host of activities that the children may enjoy. These activities are designed to be fun, creative, and stimulating for all children.

NEUROODIVERGENT / INCLUSION

Children are entitled to the best educational environment, regardless of any challenges they may face. Inclusion of children with special needs is a priority for us. Having an environment that has children with and without special needs in our classrooms is beneficial for everyone from children to staff. All staff is trained in the needs of any child that enters our center. Our Director is a Registered Nurse with more than 30 years of experience in pediatrics and incorporates her vast knowledge base in the care and education of all children in the center.
We provide care for children with:

Asthma
Autism Spectrum disorder
ADHD
Gastrostomy tubes
Downs Syndrome
and many other medical conditions

SUMMER PROGRAM

Summertime is a great time for children to experience learning in a non-traditional way. At Joshua’s Place ELEC, we understand that there is the potential for summer learning loss. We would like to help reduce any learning loss by having children do projects and some academics on a daily basis. We encourage the children to participate in literacy, math and science.

We also, go on trips that enhance the learning process, children learn about Baltimore City and get to visit places that allow for them to be creative and have fun.
